UNSIGNEDHYPE - SIKAI

Connecticut based rapper & song writer Sikai brings his own world and words to life with charisma and originality; whether “heart-felt” or “have-fun” music he has become the go-to guy. Standing at just 5′7″ on stage, there is a plan to become a giant in the hip-hop community. Recording since the tender age of eleven years old, Sikai has shown much growth on every project since, and although very much independent has gained a natural following and initial fan base with a promise of more listeners to come.

Opening up for acts such as Serani, J. Cole, and Jim Jones allows the dream to meet reality. Sikai has also received radio play on New York’s very own Power 105.1, one of the biggest radio stations in the tri-state area to date. An appearance that then landed him a spot on a Power 105.1 mixtape released this year entitled “The New NY” hosted by Power 105.1’s own DJ Suss One and Jovann The Last Don. Sikai has since performed at many different college events, local, and out of town venues with hopes to generate a household name in the future. His versatile rapping and writing style makes him hard to compare and much harder to ignore.

Dude's pretty good on the mic, and he's also pretty savvy: Hooking up with talented young filmmaker Ian Wolfson has made each of Mac's three videos considerably stronger than your average low-budget fare.

DMO's Exclusive Interview With 617's Own Dizzy !

DMO : Why Rap?

DIzzy: For those who don’t know I am a young, hardworking, and talented artist that brings forth a diverse selection of music along with my own sound. I am an artist that has the ability to connect with various demographics of people, and unify while connecting. I feel people should listen to me because no matter what record they hear me on I always have something to say. Everyone’s a rapper nowadays and it doesn’t upset me because, it’s the rappers that actually are saying something in their music that are remembered. I want to be remembered! Great music isn't hard to enjoy.

DMO : What motivates you to rap and who do you believe is you're biggest inspiration?

DIzzy: Everytime I write music I always have my fans and supporters in mind, because if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be where I'm at in my career. My quote " Motivate The Motivators " is about creating a cycle of hardwork, support, and unity. Being motivated by hardwork of others, and then also working hard and being the motivation of the next individual. My experiences in life are my biggest inspiration. I put my life over instrumentals and it just so happens people can relate , and love it.

DMO: In few words, how would you describe your style/lyrics?

DIzzy: In your face, clean, iPod must, music!

DMO: Have you collaborate with anyone and who?

DIzzy: I've had the honor of working with artist such as 3 4 Da Stripes, L-Ski, Man-U-ILL, Radio City, Vendetta, Picasso P, D- Money just to name a few. I enjoy working with all these artist, i support all artist and enjoy making great music. So if you have a fan base and you want to collab hit me up, Bookingdizzy@gmail.com.

DMO: What is your opinion on the Rap game in Boston and the industry?

DIzzy: I love my city and always will. I cant speak to much on the past but the future is looking very good. I feel the talent is here for the most part, and artist are becoming more professional and are comming together to create great music. So Overall the future for Boston music is bright. We just have to grind to get the respect we deserve.

DMO Who is your favorite rapper of today?

DIzzy: I honestly am a fan of my music. I feel before anyone else can support and believe in you , you have to support and believe in yourself. I started off a fan, and have been my hugest critic. Other than myself I have to say my favorite rapper is Lil Wayne. He's one of few people that motivates me to work hard just by seeing his face or his name, and to me thats powerful.
One million records sold in one week any other artist would be poppin bottles, he was recording. So that right there shows you his work ethic. Im proud to be a fan of Lil Wayne.

DMO: If there is any other talent that you would focus on besides rapping, what would it be?

DIzzy: I'm a pretty good football player, #2 from the Jeremiah Burke Highschool is a respected jersey. If it wasnt for breaking my ankle a few years back we probly wouldnt be having this interview.. At one point in time football was all I knew but I no longer have that type of love for the sport. I'd pick music any day.

DMO: Where do you see yourself in the future with this talent of yours?

DIzzy: I plan to be a household name, everyday i wake up i will continue to work hard and put out quality music until that is a reality. At the end of all of this I want people to love and respect my music. I want to be a respected artist in the game forever. I want to headline major shows , sell out arenas. Sell millions of records and tour the world. I want to be that success story.

And if possible effect another individuals life in a positive way. "Motivate The Motivators" -Dizzy

UNSIGNEDHYPE - PETER JACKSON

Twenty-four year old rapper, Peter Jackson, now based in the Durham region, was born and raised in Ajax, Ontario, a small suburb just outside of Toronto. Jackson initially became attracted to the rap industry in his teens. What started as a childhood hobby of freestyling in friends’ basements soon became an obsession. While Jackson would have to struggle to gain respect for his talent in a town that was better known for its punk bands, such as Sum41 he soon began to make a name for himself. This once “less than ambitious” high school student was now dedicating his time to studying the dictionary in order to expand his vocabulary. It wasn’t long before this basement hobby developed into a full-fledged passion and career.

Peter Jackson always believed that Hip Hop was his life and was determined to convince other to believe in his dream as much as he did. Jackson knew that if he was to survive in this industry he was going to have to take to the pavement himself to make it happen. Today he is not just an artist who has recorded hundreds of songs, or toured as the supporting artist for legendary rappers, he also boasts a promotions company and a clothing line. Peter Jackson and his team 90Nickel are not just a group of rapper they are a local Hip-Hop franchise.

To date Jackson has been a supporting act for artists such as, Wu Tang, Youngblooz, Obie Trice, Llyod Banks, Rupee, Ray J, Drake, Rich Boy, Kardinal Offishall, Joe Budden, Enur, Dip Set, Beenie Man, KRS One, Nas, and The Clipse. He has also hosted parties with names like, Mad Linx, Tiffany, Jayde Nicole, Cabbie on the Street, Matte Babel and Leah Miller of Much Music, Scott Boogie and Devo Brown Flow 93.5, Danny Fernandes, Mr. Vegas, and Shemar Moore. He has also collaborated on tracks with artists ranging from local talent Nikki Awesome, to D12 and most recently Treach of Naughty by Nature. In November of 2008, Peter Jackson was asked to be a part of the cross-Canada “Never say Never” Tour opening for D12, Joe Budden, Royce da 5’9 and Classified. After receiving great reviews Jackson was quickly sent back across the country in March of 2009 to open for Hip Hop superstars Naughty by Nature. And in the summer of 2009, Jackson is set to once again tour Canada with G-Unit’s Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo and DJ Whoo Kidd.

Peter Jackson has appeared on over 50 mixed tapes in North America working with names such as, DJ Rated R, Potent Product, DJ Diggz, DJ Dollah $, and more. He released his own mixed tape titled, Business as Usual hosted by DJ G-Spot of Shadyville DJ fame in 2007. Jackson quickly followed it up with two more compilations, Fly Society, featuring fellow 90Nickle member, and Hustler’s Tears, both hosted by DJ Bedz, the Denver Nuggets official DJ, and Denver, Colorado’s Shadyville DJ. In 2008, Jackson began working with executive producer Sheldon Moore, who has years of experience working with artists such as Citizen Kaine, K-OS, Big Pun, Jahiem. Together they produced and released Peter Jackson’s first EP titled, The Introduction, with features from Jmore, Emmerson Just Brooks, Toya Lexus and Royce da 5’9. The first single from the EP, Come on Over, featuring Jmore is currently receiving radio rotation across Canada after being picked up by Toronto’s Flow 93.5 FM. Jackson is in studio recording his first full length album which is expected to be released in November of 2009.

This young artist is tenacious and determined. His lyrics are insightful and he is willing to challenge the boundaries of the Rap and Hip Hop industry we know today. At times his rhymes are hard and unapologetic, but he can also captivate a club with a beat and an unforgettable hook. But perhaps the most lasting impression Jackson leaves is his humility. While he has become a local celebrity he is never shy to remind fans and critics alike, where he came from and how he got to where he is today. In Jackson’s own words, “It’s a team effort. I couldn’t have done any of this without my family, my boys or the support from my hometown.”

UNSIGNEDHYPE - Cupid Williams

Cupid Williams signed to Atlantic Records serves as a divine introduction to a multi-talented singer/performer who melds the diverse sounds of the urban South - R&B, soul, country-blues, and the countless regional flavors of hip-hop - into a charismatic sound that's irresistible, unstoppable, and uniquely his own.

Lafayette, LA-born R&B vocalist Bryson Bernard, popularly known as Cupid, first began to sing in his church's choir, encouraged by his pastor father. Despite his enrolling at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a full athletic scholarship in track and field, his real passion was still music. He left the track team to form a singing group and eventually dropped out of college. The dissolution of the group didn't sway Bernard's pursuit for a singing career as he went solo immediately after. He sang at every type of venue he could, including at talent shows, weddings, and funerals. With his five-octave vocal range, Bernard earned the name Cupid during this process for his impressive performance of the late-'90s 112 hit single "Cupid." The singer first enjoyed radio airplay in 2001 with his single "Do Ya Thing," which appeared on his self-pressed, eponymous debut the following year. His gospel-tinged vocals began to attract local promoters and rappers alike as Cupid was tapped to open for blues concerts as well as to record background vocals for various rap albums. Both experiences informed his second independently released album, The King of Down South R&B (2005), which contained elements of country, blues, and New Orleans bounce music. In late 2006, Cupid was finally discovered by Atlantic because of the enormous buzz surrounding his latest local single at the time, "Cupid Shuffle." He signed with the label that following January, and soon his dance record was standing its ground in the Top 30 of the R&B charts for several weeks. His major-label debut, Time for a Change, arrived later in the year Cyril Cordor All Music Guide
