J. McCoy seemed destined to be a performer, mimicking Rap recordings since his early ages. Born Joshua Michael Nahum McCoy, this young gunner was always surrounded my Hip-Hop music throughout his whole life. Introduced to urban music by his father Eli McCoy aka Prophet, who was a very talented Rap artist on his own, the road to stardom for J. McCoy aka The Young Teen Prince Of Hip-Hop was paved.
J. McCoy’s career started early with a lead role in PAX TV network commercials at only 4 years old. “I remember being in Mexico with my parents on vacation and being recognized. This lady was telling her friend in Spanish, ‘That’s the kid from television!’ I responded, ‘Si, thank you for recognizing me’!” He then landed a lead role in the Tupac Shakur music video for “Thugz Mansion” featuring Nas, at age 8 which he credits as an inspiration to follow his dreams to become a successful Rap artist.
J. McCoy’s first mark in the Hip-Hop game was his single from the Walt Disney Records movie soundtrack “Jump In” (2007). The song quickly became a 1 record on radio Disney and was certified Gold in just one month, putting J. McCoy on tour with The Jonas Brothers, and other Disney acts. The album is now Certified Platinum!
The Young Teen Prince Of Hip-Hop has already been in the studio recording with some of the most respected names in Hip-Hop like Ca$his from Eminem’s Shady Records, MIMS, Mishon - he even was working on a song with Hip-Hop Legends UGK before the untimely death of the late great Chad “Pimp C” Butler.
In 2008, J. McCoy was chosen to be representative for the Tupac Shakur Leadership Arts Camp in Los Angeles, California where he sat on panels and spoke to the Los Angeles youth about his experiences in the music and entertainment business and inspired them to pursue their goals and dreams no matter what while staying in school and out of trouble.
Besides his music career J. is ready to takeover the big screen. Always sharpening his skills, he attends acting school and is looking forward to his first feature film “Caught On Tape” being released in theaters in the full of 2009, co-staring with Vivica A. Fox, Kirk "Sticky Fingaz" Jones and Cedric The Entertainer.
J. McCoy is currently working on his debut album entitled "The Real McCoy" with the assistance of several multi-platinum producers such as Drumma Boy, Da Internz, PoPo Tha Don, and Rikinatti just to name a few.
